I first saw Dave Matthews Band in Eugene, Oregon, 1990. In a bar called "Good Times". It‘s a pretty small place and I had no idea who they were, but they completely blew me away. I had been to more concerts than I could even count by then (It was my first year at the University of Oregon, I was only 18 and got in with a fake I.D.) and these guys just completely twisted me. I‘ve been playing music since I was 12, and I was really into the guitar at the time. Like I said...what I saw and heard ...I still have no words to describe how I felt. They were so Tight....Sounded so good live, and then there was also this new Style of music.....man.
Anyhow, I‘ve been to countless DMB shows since and they still amaze me. Anyone who plays music seriously, is (or have been) in a serious band, cannot deny the beauty of the live show they put on, as well as the brilliance of the song arrangements.....the fact is, whether you like Dave Matthews or not, in the future he will be looked back upon as a musical genius. I‘ve strayed far from my point....which is, Dave Matthews has released more free live concert recordings than any other band I know of. Dave, in fact, encouraged people to bring their own recording devices and take what you will. There was a pretty large uprising by the record label at the time....it was a while back (7-9 years ago...something like that) but I‘m sure you can look it up. It was fairly large news at the time. So, to everyone trying to lump Dave Matthews in with other money hungry bands clearly knows nothing of his history. I have little doubt that Dave himself would really care about these P2P sharing sites. He‘s made his money.....and I have never gotten the vibe that he has an ounce of Avarice in him. But, of course, there will always be child-like clones out there who have nothing better to do than bash others who actually have the balls to use their Talent to make money. It‘s Envy. Simple as that. |
