It has been one of favorite DVD archiving applications for a long time. The application makes ripping DVDs almost as easy as ripping CDs. You just pop in a disc, decide where to save it, and FairUse Wizard will do all the heavy lifting, ripping and compressing your video using the DiVX, XViD, or H.264 codecs.

The latest version of FairUse Wizard includes a handful of bug fixes and a few new features including pre-defined encoding profiles for iPhone, iPod Touch, Apple TV, Xbox 360, PS3, and other devices. FairUse Wizard 2.8 also adds the ability to auto-detect multiple episodes on DVDs with television shows.

7-1-09: Looking more into this program... it SUCKS!!! It can‘t crack copy-protected DVDs!!! From the manual:

"As FairUse Wizard 2 cannot copy protected discs you have to pass the protection almost all commercial DVDs have another way. The easiest way is to download and install AnyDVD. It sits in the tray and does all the work! (this works not only with FairUse but any program that does not support protected DVDs). The other way is to read our guide about how to extract a DVD to an ISO file using DVD Decrypter (follow it up to Step 3). Note that you will need double the hard disk space and some extra time, but this method is free."

Also it‘s really not that good as a DIVX/XVID converter since it will NOT access files on your drive... only DVDs... or bogus ISOs you mount on virtual drives. I have a bunch of VOBs I already ripped that I wanted to convert... and this piece of crap software won‘t even do it.

7-1-09: I also learned that FairUse was an open source project and some sleazeballs have released versions that contain malware. So maybe the uploader is just a stupid dupe who doesn‘t run any AV software and thought s/he/it was doing us all a favor.

Why do people complain? FairUse is a great program. Most of the movies one downloads come from comverting DVD‘s or ISO to compressed DivX/Xvid files converted using FairUse.

Virus? Norton 360 and Spybot gives it a clean bill of health.

Of course it doesn‘t crack copy-protected dics ... who cares. What it does do ... it does it "VERY" well.

If you don‘t like the software ... don‘t use it and if you don‘t have a clue of how great the program is ... DON‘T COMMENT".

Have a great day and I say that with lots of love.

About the Rabio malware it contains...
Taken from http://www.spywareguide.com/spydet_3770_rabio.html

Rabio is a start-up and I am its CEO. After a career negotiating the battle between advertisers and internet users over who has control, I thought it worth trying to broker a peace. Rabio is, indeed, a "Program that delivers advertisements on your PC." It is a downloadable, IE plug-in available at www.rabio.com. But know that, in the course of the four-click download (beginning with a "yes" on whether to download and ending with approval of terms and conditions), users have full visibility into its function and its removal. And no special software is needed to effectively uninstall the plug-in. We are hoping to create a user-directed advertising network wherein users can determine the mix of advertising they‘d like so see. It is a grand experiment, but does not entail the kind of eavesdropping done routinely (and annoyingly?) to drive intrusive functions like behavioral tracking. The terms conditions are quite clear (I hope) and explicit on these points as is our privacy policy, found easily at http://www.rabio.com/privacy.aspx. By the standards of www.spywareguide.com (privacy policy? easy uninstall?), Rabio is certainly no "Annoyance," in fact, we intend to be seen as a benefit, If you are willing, I will keep you apprised of our progress. John Berard

Hope this helps!

For anyone stupid enough to download this - Do you really believe, for a second, that ANY software (let alone this dreck) would ever be seeded three times more than any other file listed on BTJunkie? (i.e. they are fake seeds/leechers) designed to dupe you into downloading.

Maybe its seeded so much because its only 14MB and it takes a fraction of the time to upload it than the rest of the files on the site... ever think of that?

" Maybe its seeded so much because its only 14MB and it takes a fraction of the time to upload it than the rest of the files on the site... ever think of that? "

We used to think that when we were stupid. Now we know better.

Its called spoofing the S/L numbers. Did you even stop to think why a torrent uploaded in december 2008 and wasnt anywhere in the most popular BTJ torrents until 5-6 days ago?

Couple that with all the S/L numbers coming from moviesb4time.com and you now have the source of the spoofed numbers.

FairUse is a very good program. It doesn‘t convert protected DVDs, but this can easily be solved by using AnyDVD.

As to what "eniwetok" said, there are 2 versions of FairUse, the Light Edition (basics) and Full Edition, which costs 30 has more options. Otherwhise, why would anyone be looking for it here???

THIS VERSION WORKS PERFECTLY AND IS CLEAN OF VIRUSES (scanned with ESET Security Suite, virus signature database 20090816), requires no cracks/serials, and even comes with a couple of essential codecs + a tutorial on how to use it.

As an alternative to anyone who doesn‘t like it, try "Handbrake 0.9.3" in combination with "AnyDVD" or "DVD Decrypter".
