so, i did everything exactly how i was told to do......after installing, ran regedit, then-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARESquare Soft, IncFINAL FANTASY VIII1.00, modified the valued data drive to E: which was what i used to install it, and while the disk is mounted, tried to start the game, it keeps asking for a disk......iv tried many different ways to get it to work, including converting it to an iso file, and it just wont work........

ok I am not a newb, I am quite the experienced cracker especially when it comes to this, but i can not for the life of me solve this problem.

Mount Install disk image - Check
Install Game - Check
Mount Disk 1 - Check
Change Registry value for DataDrive - Check
Run FF8.Exe - Check
Play game Enjoy - fail

What am I missing?

nevermind. I guess you have to mount the disk1.bin and disk1.cue on seperate drives

I experienced the same problem, could not read disc 1. I have tried to change the regedit but still failed. Could anyone here help by telling us detailed instructions? It will be very kind of those who are willing to help, I thank you in advance.

I had a lot of trouble, perhaps due to the programs. I used Daemon Tools and MagicDisc

1.) Download Daemon Tools, and Mount the file Final Fantasy VIII - Install Disc. Open it from the drive that you mounted it on from My Computer

2.) The game screen should come up. Click Install (obviously)

3.) Once installed, mount Final Fantasy VIII - Disc 1.BIN onto the drive on MagicDisk (Its a piece of piss to use) You don‘t need to mount the .CUE file onto a serparate drive. I didnt need to use it

4.)Click Start, Run and type in Redegit. Click the little + next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to expand. Do the same for SOFTWARE and Square Soft Inc. and FINAL FANTASY VIII.

5.) Click the folder 1.00, and right-click the file DataDrive and click Modify. Under My Computer there will be a vitual drive with FF8_Disc 1 in. Type the letter in brackets follwed by a colon in the value data that you are modifying. (For example, F:, G: etc.) This means that the game will load the data for disc onefrom the drive it is actually in, and not your standard CD Drive.

6.) When you need to use another Disc, all you need to do is Unmount the Disc 1.BIN, and Mount whichever other Disc you need

If you have any questions E-mail weazel666@hotmail.com
I don‘t think I can explain it any clearer

Note that for 64-bit versions of windows, the correct registry key is
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Square Soft, Inc/FINAL FANTASY VIII/1.00"
(Note the Wow6432Node)

Just Follow weazel1990 instructions!!! The Game is in language..

Ahh I forgot...For some Vista users, If you get this error when starting a New Game: "FF8.exe has stopped working", simply go to the FF8 Installed Folder..right click on FF8.exe and go to the "compatibility" tab and click on:
"Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and make sure you have "Windows XP" selected in the drop down box. Afterwards Below, click on "Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution" then put apply, accept..and you‘re set to go! Cheers

Keeps giving me real shitty graphics and stripes on screen(as errors) while playing meanwhile the videos run perfectly(with XP, 512 vidcard, 2,4ghz orso - well Crysis-Warhead ran with no problems). The game looks worse than my Sega yellow-kasette console game 15 years ago:P
Its cus I failed in Direct3D - 8-bit palette Texture in Graphics Config?
Any suggestions?

Listen guys. This is easy. For XP users. Have a new folder created on your c drive(I named mine FF8)under my documents. Use Power ISO and open the Install Disk .bin or .cue file. Highlight all the files in Power ISO and right click on the highlighted files. In the menu, click extract. Browse(...)to the folder created under my documents and select it and click ok. Select all files and then extract or ok. Now open the folder in you extracted to under my documents and double click the setup.exe file. Once the software installs. Burn Disk 1 .cue file in ISO format to a CD-R. Do the same for Disks 2-4. Insert Disk 1 into your CD-ROM Drive. Go to your created folder under my documents (or wherever you extracted to) and double click the startup.exe file. You‘re good to go. FYI - I used NERO to burn the ISO images to the CD-Rs‘.

jakktheripper... You have to mount the Bin. Image onto a seperate drive like Weazel1990 said (F:, G: Etc....) The only problem I‘m having is that five minuets into the game it cuts out on me every time with out fail... It‘s not hard to install it‘s extremly easy.

I cant belive I fucked this up but for the people that are having problems with it crashing. Install it on for ex.. The F: drive then mount the bin image onto the F: drive got to Run then regedit go to Square soft Inc then final fantasy 8 right click on the data drive modify it to F: then right click the launcher and run it for compadiblity for Xp plus 640 res like those guys said and then play the game if your runing vista make sure you do all this un run as administrator including the installation

Yeah, the Regedit thing seems not to work. At the very least not on Windows Vista, though it may on others. If anyone‘s figured out how to get this to work on Vista could you post it for us?

OK people to get this torrent do exactly what the readme files say as far as the install and the patches...once that is done make sure you replace the patch image with the regular game image...mount disk one image and run the patch as administrator and it will work....my only problem now is it crashes when u enter the communications tower in the SeeD Exam
