| What an incredible movie! So far removed from the usual churned out rot from Hollywood. This Japanese-French production is a thinking person‘s movie and not for the usual idiot that has been brought up on a diet of mass-produced American movies. Political intrigue and a good insight into feudal Japanese society has been well-done. Acting is extremely theatrical in places but this adds to what makes it different. Watch out for the "white-fox" when she is duped with a head of a temple statue, believing it to be the head of the wife of the household. Scheming bitch gets hers in the end! Good DVD quality, though taken from the original was not superb resolution from the beginning and English speakers will need to concentrate on the sub-titles all the way through to follow the plot fully. Highly recommend to get this one! |
