actually, depends on which server you use to d/l from, i always get 400kb+ when i d/l ubuntu, though ive never downloaed the AMD 64bit version. But i agree, its pretty stupid to torrent a freely available file. Its not like people are grabbing it @ 2.0kb‘s a sec

Use the torrent instead of furthering Ubuntu‘s expenses. Even if this is slightly slower (which I doubt), you‘re allowing the Ubuntu team to focus their expenses on hiring better coders and such instead of spending money on servers. |

Just so people know: You don‘t need Microsoft, and you don‘t have to keep buying software to scan your computer. No scandisk. No defrag. No problem.
Just get a live CD from http://www.ubuntu.com. "Live CD" means that you don‘t have to commit to the new system. You can boot your computer from the CD. If you choose to install Ubuntu, you will not lose Windows. It‘s called "dual boot". When you start your computer you will have the choice of which system you want to boot. Windows or Ubuntu. Somewhere down the line you will start using the faster, better system all the time. It really works. Best, Tom |

Oh, and dual booting is a piece of cake... the only time you run into trouble is if you remove Ubuntu without fixing a few things first, cuz then Grub will take a dump when it can‘t find your Linux partition... otherwise, it works beautifully, or you could use Wubi, though it only works with Fiesty last time I checked. |

I‘ve been running Ubuntu for a couple of years, and don‘t miss Windoze at all. This torrent is a good idea if it gets more people to try a better operating system. JMO |

CaptainBunghole: Check again. Wubi is indeed dual boot. You select Ubuntu or Windoze on bootup. If you let it time out, you get Windoze by default.
Bonus: When you boot Ubuntu, there‘s a folder on your desktop with all your Windoze files. Bonus bonus: No partitioning. Wubi goes into a folder, nice and neat. You get to choose the size of the folder on install. Don‘t like it? Just uninstall as you would a Windoze program. |

AVG ANTI VIRUS WARNING
Heads up guys... AVG Anti Virus is NOT our Friend... FACT: I have a Keygen for a certain program that I‘ve used many times. All the Sudden, AVG reported it as having a Virus... I first thought is was just a delayed Definitions issue. But the more I thought about it, the program I was using, Never gave me a problem. And this is not the first time AVG has done this with Keygens and Patches. So, I used a different computer Without AVG and ran the Keygen, I also scanned the Keygen with Panda and Norton Anti Virus. No Virus Found. After running the Keygen, it worked Fine and I wrote the Key produced down on paper and tried it on the first computer. It Worked Fine. I then re-scanned the computer that produced the Key with both (up to date) Panda and Norton, AGAIN... No Virus Found and the System Works Fine. AVG is a Good Anti Virus program. BUT, apparently AVG is taking it upon themselves to be our Moral Police. USERS BEWARE... Not only did AVG report this Keygen as having a Virus (it does Not) it completely DISABLED it. Made it unusable on the first computer. AVG is deciding (without your knowledge or approval) what they will lie about and what they will DISABILE on your personal property... I‘m done with this BS Software and that BS Company... Its up to you... Just letting you know what happened to me... USERS BEWARE... AVG Anti Virus is NOT our Friend... |

from my experience linux (redhat/mandrake) is a nice system, but it has a problem, it tends to die by itself without reason, and the sucks because it takes days to configure the system and install the latest updates, players and so on. I hope that ubuntu lets u install most stuff using RPM like manner, because most people will find "compiling" very difficult and time wasting, which is right in my opinion, a system must be easy to use without the command prompt. Linux cannot take microsoft whatsoever, because they cannot convince people to move without letting them whatever windows can give them, this means all the familiarity, ease of use, install/uninstall, new games, new programs and office, u cannot compare open office to microsoft‘s, maybe to the 97 version. I am not a fan of microsoft but linux cannot survive unless they unite and create a really stable(for workstations) OS which can run both win/linux software without configuring the system all the time, who has the time to test all the linux distributions and be a "beta tester" this means you need to spend your time and by then a whole new version goes out. This is very lame because it gets you nowhere. I really like the linux servers though, very stable. |
